I am unable to rename files on bunny storage

At this time, renaming files or folders directly on Bunny Storage is not supported due to a current technical limitation in our file synchronization system.

Why Can’t I Rename Files?

You might notice that when accessing Bunny Storage via FTP or Dashboard, there is no option available to rename files or folders. This is not a bug or a permissions issue; it’s an intentional limitation of the system.

We understand this may be frustrating, and we want to be transparent:

ℹ️ This restriction exists because of how Bunny.net replicates and synchronizes content across multiple edge locations. Allowing renames could lead to inconsistencies or conflicts during propagation, so the action is currently blocked by design to maintain system stability.

What Can I Do Instead?

While native renaming is not supported, you can still achieve the same result by using this simple workaround:

  1. Re-upload the file or folder using the desired new name.
  2. Once confirmed that the upload was successful, delete the old version.

This approach ensures that your renamed content is stored and served properly without any impact on sync performance.

Is Renaming Support Coming in the Future?

Yes, we’re actively considering support for renaming functionality in future updates based on user feedback. However, due to the technical complexity of syncing file changes across all edge nodes, we do not have an ETA at this time.

ℹ️ We understand this may not be ideal, and we appreciate your patience as we work on improving Bunny Storage.
