What is CDN Acceleration and how to enable it?

What is CDN Acceleration?

CDN Acceleration is a feature in bunny.net that allows you to seamlessly connect your domain to a Pull Zone using Bunny DNS. When enabled, it automatically routes traffic through the CDN, enabling your website’s content, including images, scripts, videos, and other assets, to be delivered via Bunny’s global network, enhancing performance and reducing load times.

This setup also simplifies the process of enabling SSL, since the domain is already verified through Bunny DNS, making SSL certificate issuance seamless via Let’s Encrypt.

Key Benefits of CDN Acceleration

  • Quickly connect your domain to the CDN with just a few clicks
  • Serve assets (images, CSS, JS, etc.) through Bunny’s global network
  • Easier SSL setup when using Bunny DNS, thanks to automatic domain validation
  • Reduce load on your origin server by caching common static files
  • Simple setup with no need to manually configure Pull Zones for each subdomain

How to Enable CDN Acceleration

Step 1: Make Sure You’re Using Bunny DNS

CDN Acceleration only works if your domain is managed through Bunny DNS.

ℹ️ If you’re using an external DNS provider (like Cloudflare or GoDaddy), you’ll need to move your DNS to bunny.net first.

Step 2: Go to the DNS Zone

  1. In your Bunny.net dashboard, go to the DNS tab.
  2. Click on the domain you want to accelerate.

Step 3: Enable CDN Acceleration

  1. Go to the CDN Acceleration button.
  2. Click Enable.
  3. Bunny.net will automatically:
    • Link the Pull Zone to your domain
    • Start accelerating your traffic

How to Know If It’s Working

After enabling CDN Acceleration, visit your site. Your static assets should now be served through bunny.net’s CDN.
To verify:

1 - Check the Pull Zone Statistics:

  1. Go to your bunny.net dashboard
  2. Navigate to Monitoring → Logs → Filter your accelerated pull zone
  3. Confirm that requests are being logged for your domain

2 - Inspect HTTP Headers:

  1. Open your browser’s Developer Tools (usually with F12 or Right-click → Inspect)
  2. Go to the Network tab and refresh your page
  3. Click on a static file (e.g., .jpg, .css, .js) and look for the following headers:

Header

What It Means

cdn-pullzone

Indicates which Bunny Pull Zone handled the request

cdn-cache

Shows if the content was served from cache (HIT, MISS, or BYPASS)

cdn-requestcountrycode

Shows the country from which the request was served

If these headers are present, it confirms your content is being served through bunny.net’s CDN.
